Factory Artwork Project

Old Cement Factory Artwork Project - Golden Cap: A Living Painting
This artwork depicts Golden Cap, the highest point on England’s south coast, as seen from Charmouth beach.
It is painted on brass, an alloy of copper and zinc, metals found within the geology of the Jurassic Coast. When exposed to air, moisture, and touch, brass slowly forms a natural patina, causing its surface to darken and evolve over time.
Like the cliffs themselves, nothing here is fixed.
The changing surface reflects the processes shaping this coastline; the erosion, weathering, and constant movement. In this way, the painting becomes a living landscape, continually responding to its environment.
You are invited to take part in this transformation. By gently polishing the natural brass top of Golden Cap, you help restore its brightness, briefly holding back the effects of time, just as we seek to care for the coast.
This is a painting in motion. A landscape that lives.
